Class Experience

Fans of kaiju can learn and discuss how the genre of film began and developed through Japan's Showa Era. We will begin with an introduction of the Showa Era. What was going on in Japan at the time? How did this influence the first kaiju films? How did the themes of the films change as the series continued? Connections will be made to how the mood, story-lines, and characters change and adapt to the culture of post-war Japan. Learners are not required to have watched each film, but a general understanding of story continuity throughout the Showa Era and of Showa Era kaiju is highly recommended.

Note - The following class is available as a general introduction to kaiju as both monsters and genre of film. It is not a prerequisite for this class, however new fans of kaiju may benefit from taking it first.

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I LOVE teaching! I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and am in the process of earning my Master of Science in Reading Education. I love creating and adapting my own curricula to make learning engaging and fun for the virtual learner and believe that providing interactive, organized, and thoughtful instruction in a supportive environment can pave the way for even the most hesitant student. It is my philosophy that learning happens in many ways, so, naturally, teaching should, too! My classes incorporate a variety of teaching tools to provide for different learning styles.
