The Secret Lives of Honey Bees In this class the children will learn the following: The anatomy of a honey bee. Where they live. The different jobs they do in the hive. The differences between workers, drones and the Queen. How to draw a realistic honey bee. The class begins by looking at where bees live in nature and in "captivity" with bee keepers. After this, the children will meet "Harriet the Honey Bee" who will teach them the different parts of a bee and the differences between bumble bees and honey bees. Fascinatingly, bees are given different roles to perform in the hive such as guarding, nursing, and cleaning. The children will learn about these jobs and will be taught how to recognise drones, workers and the Queen bee. As the lesson progresses, they will draw a honey bee by following my step by step instructions which will be given verbally and through pictures.

My husband and I have been bee keepers for the past three years. We started with one hive but it has now grown to five. Every year we make candles from the wax and harvest surplus honey that we sell to our local community. We have learnt a great deal about bees behaviour and continue learn more and more about them every year.
