In this one time class by art teacher Mrs. DeMaria, students will learn the history of artist Edvard Munch, and recreate his famous 'The Scream' painting with pencil drawing and oil pastels. -Students will learn about Edvard Munch, including how much art he created, how his work was influential and pioneering, but how he is mainly remembered for this one piece. -Students will learn a little about modern art as a style, and how there are many subcategories of art under this broad term. -Students will learn about perspective and blending as they create their piece. -Students will receive step by step instructions as they sketch their own version of “The Scream” in pencil -Students will then receive step by step instructions on the use of the oil pastels to add color. -Finally, students will go over the facial features again with the pencil. Cameras must be on and students must be on camera for the entirety of the class. All learners must be enrolled students; if two learners are sharing a device, both learners must be enrolled per Outschool policies. Teacher expertise and credentials
Laurie DeMaria is an art teacher for Success Enrichment Group's jr high and high school students in Central New York. She has enjoyed creating artwork in various mediums for 20+ years. She has won awards for her woodburning pieces in both the US and in Canada. In addition to calligraphy, paper quilling, and scherenschnitte (paper cutting), she works with acrylics and graphite. Laurie lives with her husband in New York, where she is a work-from-home, homeschooling mom of 2. She enjoys theater, music, and reading, is fluent in ASL and is an activist in the fight against human trafficking.
