We learn about a different scientist, inventor, engineer or explorer each week. This is perfect for learners to explore areas of Science such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology as well as discover the History of Science and Geography too. Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, songs, videos and much more. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week of 30/9/24 - Timothy Berners-Lee (World Wide Web) Week of 7/10/24 - Ada Lovelace (Computer Programming) Week of 14/10/24 - Archimedes (Float or Sink Week of 21/10/24 - Lorenzo Langstroth (Beekeeping) Week of 28/10/24 - Rosalind Franklin (DNA) Week of 4/11/24 - Katherine Johnson (Rockets) Week of 11/11/24 - George Washington Carver (Botany) Week of 18/11/2024 - Carl Linnaeus (Organising Living Things) Week of 25/11/2024 - Mary Shelley (Robots) Week of 02/12/2024 - Nicholas Appert (Preserving Food) Week of 09/12/2024 - Albert Einstein Week of 16/12/2024 - Orville and Wilbur Wright (Aircraft) Further themes will be added. Please note, this course can be taken in additional to the Ongoing Science and Geography classes. Although some themes may look similar, material, classes and learning objectives are different.

Supply List
Learners will need the activity sheets, a pencil, and crayons each week. Some classes may require things to be cut out before the class and for learners to bring glue to class with them. Some classes involve a simple experiment. The required materials will be posted to the classroom. Please print out or download the relevant handouts in advance of each class. These will be uploaded to the 'Classroom' by Sunday 7pm PST each week.
