Warm Up Question - Which type of music do you like best? Answer in the chat. Students will need paper and a writing utensil. We'll be creating Doodle Notes together as we learn. 15 min - Human Ear Anatomy - Why are we able to hear? What can we detect with our ears? How are ears like satellites? What happens if ... game! 15 min - Sound Waves - How do sounds travel? Why can we hear things under water? Do astronauts hear sound in space? What makes sounds change as they move? Students will learn the anatomy and physiology of the ear as well as how sound waves are interpreted by the human nervous system. Students will perform a few quick experiments with their own ears to test out the new knowledge. Students will compare and contrast the movements of sound through different medium. The scientific measurements of sound will be analyzed and compared. We will discover the ElectroMagnetic Spectrum together and discuss the ranges of sound waves that can be detected by the human ear as opposed to other instrumentation. Students will learn about the classifications of instruments as well as how various instruments create the vibrations that our ears pick up as sounds. Students will explore how changing the vibrations of household instruments effects the sound.
