The Science of Science Fiction

In this ongoing class we look at technology and concepts from popular sci-fi settings like Star Trek, Star Wars, and other age appropriate franchises such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and explore the real science behind the ideas. 

Each week we look at a new tech, such as lightsabers, teleporters,  warp drives, hyper space travel, and replicators. We discuss how the technologies are used in fiction and what real life scientific concepts they are based on. We then explore how the real life concepts work, and how they are applied in real life. 

Lessons are highly interactive, and lecture and discussion based. Learners will view and participate in a presentation full of images and some videos. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and think critically about science fiction and science nonfiction!
