This one-time class will cover the force of friction, a force that opposes motion. The nature of the force will be described and real-life examples will presented including the heat produced from moving objects. The class will cover air resistance as an example of friction and describe why shooting stars and meteors burn up in the atmosphere. We will also see if the legend of not being able to pull apart two phonebooks with their pages interleaved due to friction is true or not. Hint, the cumulative force is amazing! The class will include interesting demonstrations. Important note: students enrolled in full-semester Physical Science should not take this class.
