Students will spend the class learning about law in Colonial America. Students will learn about the Capital Laws and how they applied to the Salem Witch Trial. The class will not run if it does not meet its minimum of two students. During the class students will learn about primary sources. The class will discuss the history of the religion and government in America. Students will evaluate primary sources to understand the lack of division between church and state during colonial times. We will discuss how this led to the Salem Witch Trials and then review the accusations against Mary Easty. Students knowledge will be evaluated through discussion and participation. This class only meets once for 55 minutes, thus, no homework will be assigned. Students should print out a copies of the Capital Laws, The Witches Petition for Bail and Trial of Mary Easty worksheet as well as the Primary Source graphic organizer prior to class.
Learning Goals
Students will gain an understanding of the history of government and religion in America, as well as learn how fear led to the Salem Witch Trials through the use of primary sources.

Parental Guidance
This class is intended for middle to upper elementary students. Mature topics will be discussed such as the death penalty.

I am a state certified teacher in social studies, English and library media. I have a BA in history and anthropology and a M. Ed in secondary education. I have taught for 15 years at a cyber charter school. During this time, I helped create the school's online high school program while teaching social studies and English classes.
