The Sahara Desert is huge. It covers an area of 3,629,360 square miles and is still growing. It is the largest hot desert in the world and if the Sahara were a country it would be the fifth largest country in the world! Located in North Africa, the Sahara has played an important role in the development of African culture and history. In this class we will learn about the physical and human geography and history of this wonderful and unique ecosystem. We will explore the climate, landforms, wildlife, oases and topography of this desert as well as its prominence in the Kingdom of Kush and later as an important trade route. There will be a pop quiz at the end and some time for drawing. Please bring some paper and colours to class. No prior knowledge needed, all are welcome.
