Class Experience
By the end of this class students will be familiar with World War I, the Russian Revolution, Tzar Nicholas II, Karl Marx, and why Communism was an attractive philosophy for the Russians during this era. They will understand how and why the revolution occurred, and what effects it produced.
I have a bachelor's degree in History and Government and Political Philosophy, and I am a currently working towards my MA. My undergraduate thesis examined Soviet espionage in the United States during World War II, the Communist Party of the United States, and McCarthyism. I have taught several sections of "Friday Spy Day" which discusses Soviet espionage in the United States, and courses in intelligence history, World War II, and the Holocaust.
No homework is assigned, and no prior knowledge of World War I, or the Russian Revolution is necessary.
No resources are required to attend this course.

3 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The Russian Revolution included the siege of several major cities and the death of the imperial family. It occurred during a world war, and has imparted lasting effects on the Russian people to this day. Communism remains prevalent in many countries, and it is important to understand the history of this political philosophy. This class is intended for students with an interest in history and politics, and who are comfortable discussing topics such as war and revolution.
