Class Experience

Alcatraz has a very long and interesting history that spans over one hundred years. The most riveting history is its use as an impenetrable prison for the most hardened criminals. This class will focus both on this history and daily life on the island. We will also look at some of the more famous criminals who lived on the island for a time as well as some of the more famous and unsolved escape attempts. At the conclusion of the class we will have an escape room where students will have to solve puzzles to "escape" from Alcatraz.

Learning Goals

While this class does cover the history of Alcatraz and its use, it will be more laid back and will focus more on the central escape room activity.
