During this class, students will explore the beginnings of jawed fish in the Silurian Period nearly 443 million years ago. A Powerpoint presentation during an in-class discussion will show students some of the different species of fish alive during this time. The lesson will also include a short YouTube video showing how one of the ancient fish moved, what environment it lived in, and how it may have survived.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the evolution of jawed fish through an engaging in-class discussion with a Powerpoint accompanied by a Youtube video showcasing a species of fish from the Silurian Period. We will focus on the evolution of jawed fish while revisiting our old friends the jawless fish from the previous two periods.
