Description
Class Experience
While learning about Indian and Chinese culture and traditions students will come to understand why the early civilizations in these areas were located along rivers, as well as the factors that contributed to a stable and lasting civilization.
I am certified to teach Social Studies for grades 6-12 in the state of Michigan, and I am also considered highly qualified in the state. I have been teaching middle school Social Studies for five years.
There will be a variety of homework assignments given throughout this class. Students will be asked to read the suggested readings in order to help introduce and reinforce what students will learn during class times (these readings are outlined in the course description). Students will also be asked to complete some review sheets for homework (also outlined in the course description). Homework should not take more than 1-2 hours per week.
All materials will be provided to learners in our Outschool Classroom. The join code for the FlipGrid will be posted in the Outschool classroom before our live classes start.
Students progress will be assessed informally through class discussion and formally through classwork assignments, as well as a test at the end of the course. Point values will be assigned to classwork assignments and the test at the end of the course.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Please note that Kahoot and FlipGrid may require learners or parents to create an account in order to access the learning tool.
We will be using curriculum readings provided by USHistory.org, CommonLit.org, National Geographic Society, as well as Students of History, activities, and assignments that will be posted in the Outschool Classroom for this course, and accessed during the live class. Many readings found on specific websites will be read during class recordings, so learners do not need to navigate to those websites themselves.
