Class Experience

In this ongoing class, students will review how to read, write, count, and perform musical rhythms, and practice them with new musical friends. The rhythms include:
- Sixteenth notes
- Sixteenth rests
- Dotted half notes
- Dotted half rests
- Dotted quarter notes
- Dotted quarter rests
- Dotted eighth notes
- Dotted eighth rests
- Triplets
- Triplet rests

They will be able to recognize, read, write, count, and clap (or otherwise perform or "drum") these rhythms in various combinations.

In addition to normal "exercises," we will create songs, or re-create songs we know to practice reading and using these rhythmic elements.
I have both a bachelors and masters degree in Music Education, and am a certified music educator for grades PreK-12. I spent 4 years as a middle and high school band director, and many (many!) more years teaching private music lessons, small group lessons, and helping large music classes for music students of all ages!

Among many aspects of music that I know and love, rhythm is my favorite thing to teach! I can't wait to share this information with our young musician friends!
Students should practice saying, writing, and clapping the rhythms performed in class at home with their families! This will help keep the information fresh in their mind throughout the week so they will be prepared to make music again the following week!
- Pencil (or 2 pencils) - Paper - Any worksheets or staff paper provided for the class
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed informally by the teacher throughout class, both during group and individual "performance" , counting, speaking, or writing.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
