US Grade 6 - 8
This is a live class which meets 4 times over one week.

This is an English Language Arts class aimed at 6th grade and above. This class focuses on research methods. Research is a transferable skill which fosters critical thinking, enables you to locate appropriate information and evaluate it for quality and relevance. Learners will benefit from learning how to paraphrase their source material as well as being careful to avoid plagiarism. This class will use presentations and written exercises, learners will need pen and paper to complete these exercises (no printing required).

Day 1 - The Research Process - pre-search checklist, steps and suggestions for researching a paper, note taking techniques. Homework : creating a mind map
Day 2 - Evaluating Sources - how to evaluate sources they find on the internet for reliability and accuracy, evaluation techniques
Day 3 - Paraphrasing - how to summarize and paraphrase and why it’s an important skill
Day 4 - Plagiarism -  understanding the five types of plagiarism, parody and fair use. Kahoot quiz on the final day for assessment.
