In this ongoing course, we will foster a love of reading and developing social skills as we read together. This will be a low-stress structured setting for learners to explore books, make friends, and develop their vocabularies. #academic

Class experience

US Grade 3 - 4
Learners will improve their understanding of character, setting, internal conflict and external conflict, motivation, suspense, imagery, narration, and theme. 

Learners will improve their ability to participate in in-depth discussions of texts. 

Though this is not a language class, learners will build language and communication skills through interactions with their peers.
I am an experienced public school teacher. I have taught reading, writing, and math at all levels from pre-kindergarten through college. I am a reading and math specialist, and I have extensive experience working with struggling learners. I am well-trained in working with learners to identify and overcome their individual challenges in reading, writing, and math.
Homework Offered
Learners will be assigned reading sections ahead of each class meeting. Guided reading questions will be provided for each reading section. Learners are expected to have completed the assigned reading section before each class.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners will be encouraged to participate in discussions of the assigned texts. These discussions will be used to determine the learners' understanding of the texts.
Grades Offered
Learners will be assigned published texts to read. They are welcome to access those texts in the way that best suits them and their families. 
Additionally, learners will be provided guided reading questions ahead of each reading section. 
No intentionally upsetting or scary texts will be assigned for class readings. As I am trained in the CPI method of de-escalation and counseling, I am equipped to address issues that may arise from the texts that are assigned.  
Learners will be assigned published texts to read. They are welcome to access those texts in the way that best suits them and their families.
