👋🏼 Welcome to my classroom! 👋🏼 This course focuses on enhancing reading comprehension and developing critical reading skills through interactive passages and reading comprehension questions. Each session is crafted to help students gain confidence and proficiency, fostering a love for reading while strengthening their ability to understand and analyze texts. 🎟 This class is ongoing, so your learner can join anytime! 🎟 September 2024 Lessons Week of September 8th: Fluency Practice with "Tricking Your Memory" passage (fiction) Week of September 15th: Details in a Text with "Trying Something New" passage (fiction) Week of September 22nd: Making Inferences with "Not the Same" passage (fiction) Week of September 29th: Details in a Text with "Scorpions" passage (non-fiction) Class Structure: 📕 Welcome to class! ~ All learners are individually greeted and welcomed to class. ~ Your child’s safety in my classroom is of the utmost importance. **Per Outschool’s safety and learner privacy policies, all learners must have working audio and video. Students must turn their videos on at the beginning of each class to verify their identity. No exceptions will be made. If you have questions about this policy or are concerned about technical trouble before entering the classroom, please reach out to Outschool Support. 📕 Supply check-in: Let’s make sure you have what you need to succeed! ~ To get the most out of the class, students should come to class prepared with a few items: 1.) Weekly packet which includes: printed version of the fiction/non-fiction text for the day, questions/constructed response paper(s) - OR - lined paper (**IMPORTANT** If you are unable to print, your student may still attend class, I will display the text/all questions on the board via a shared screen in Zoom.) Weekly packets will be posted no later than Sunday at noon. 2.) Pencil with an eraser 📕 What are we learning today? ~ Class learning goals and outcomes will be discussed. 📕 Discussion of class rules: ~ Have fun ~ Do your best ~ Ask questions ~ Be respectful and kind to yourself and the other learners in our class. 📕 Today's Text: ~ Students will have 5 minutes to read the passage and response questions silently to themselves. ~ What are we reading about today? We will briefly discuss what the weekly passage is about. ~ Each student will have an opportunity to read part of the passage aloud to the class. 📕 Response Questions: ~ We will review each response question together as a class. Students are expected to write their answers in complete sentences either on their response paper or their lined paper. Any unanswered questions will be assigned as homework. 📕 Constructed Response Question(s): ~ Students will have 5-7 minutes to work on their constructive response question silently. ~ Once the majority of the students are finished, we will discuss the question together as a class. 📕 Homework: ~ Homework (if any) will be discussed during this time. 📕 Class Summary & Review: ~ Students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the lesson, their response questions, etc. 📕 See you next time!
