The Reading Detectives Club-Comprehension Strategies-Third & Fourth Grade

#ACADEMIC In this on-going class, students will read high-interest texts and learn and practice various reading strategies to complete reading comprehension questions and activities.

Class Experience

US Grade 4
In this ongoing Reading Comprehension class, learners will read both fiction and non-fiction high-interest texts. Learners will learn various reading strategies like(Identifying the Main Idea, Predicting, Visualizing, Summarizing, Using Key Words, etc.) and use them to complete a variety of comprehension activities. The texts will be teacher written. Each of the classes is a stand-alone lesson and students may join or leave the class at any time.
Each class will follow the following format:
1. Greetings.
2. Read Text(students will read aloud if they wish).
3. Comprehension Activities(This will be a combination of teacher modelling and student practice).
4. Review of strategy or strategies.
5. Goodbyes.
*This class will continue for the school year.

Supply List
A handout will be required for each class. They will be posted each week in the classroom.
Learners should also have the following materials available each week:
-pencil and eraser
-scissors and a glue stick
-highlighter
-colored pencils, crayons and/ or markers
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! My name is Teacher Jo. I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am a passionate, experienced, creative and motivating educator. I have 26 years of teaching experience. I have a Masters in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Theory. I was a classroom teacher and an Elementary School Vice Principal. I have an Advanced Certificate in Literacy Instruction with a strong background and passion for teaching students to read, write, listen and speak. I am also an artist. I have a strong foundation in Art Education and love to teach lessons that mesh the Fundamentals of Art with the pure joy of creating something. I would love to meet your child and share my passion for life-long learning for with him or her.
