To learn: How does dancing relate to psychology? In a 2008 article in Scientific American magazine, a Columbia University neuroscientist posited that synchronizing music and movement—dance, essentially—constitutes a “pleasing double play.” Music stimulates the brain's reward centers, while dance activates its sensory and motor circuits.
Mrs. Collins is a certified science teacher, but before that she trained in classical ballet for 18 years with GBC. She attended Brenau University and took psychology of dance, jazz, ballet theory, and modern before heading off to focus on science. As a science teacher her dance days came back when teaching students anatomy. The psychology of dance deals with muscle memory and how our neurons fire at times. She is now back to combine her experience with both into a short unit study.
