In this class, we will be discussing The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Some people consider this the perfect story that has everything anyone could want included. A princess, a farm boy who becomes a pirate, a giant, and even torture and adventure with some sword fighting thrown in. But, with all of this adventure going on, does the story of Buttercup, a girl known for her beauty, hold up to scrutiny? Do these characters truly stand the test of time or will they fall flat throughout the story? Join along for the adventure as we discuss this book! This class is broken down so that we will be reading (independently at home) and discussing the story as we go along. We will be talking about the different aspects of the book as well as the structure of the story, including the growth of the characters and the arc that the story takes. We will discuss character archetypes, as well as the elements of stories, including inciting incidents and turning points. Would we suggest this story to a friend? Does the author attain a goal by telling these stories? Were we scared? Would be share these tales around a campfire? Just a few of the things we will be talking about as the story unfolds! All students are asked to have their cameras on as it helps keep students engaged and encourages conversation. Please raise your hand if you are ready to comment and respect the commentary of all other students by not interrupting. Class 1: Pages 1-45 (...who mentioned Buttercup to the Count.) Class 2: Pages 45-90 ("Then by all means let us marry.") Class 3: Pages 90-135 ("Tell me.") Class 4: Pages 136-180 ("...she managed to say.") Class 5: Pages 181-226 ("...drink until Vizzini came...")
