I will teach an original lesson on personification, “The Pretense of Personification". This lesson will guide the meaning and use of personification, as a literary device, much like the tools needed in any area to enhance effectiveness. This lesson also will provide examples of personification for learners to analyze and interpret. I will guide the fact that personification expressions should not be taken literally by integrating science and social content into the study. This study allows the learner to connect with the origin of the word "personification" and transfer that information into mnemonic devices. These devices provide additional success for retrieving the concepts presented. My class is structured as a live class, with content knowledge developed by examples and definitions with clarity. I also structure classroom participation and feedback to assess understanding and inspire students' "buy-in". Then, I structure reinforcement concepts with devices to enhance successful retrieval. Fun and success are key elements in my class structure, as well as informal assessment. I will teach with passion and inclusivity. I will guide learners with the use of open-ended questions. My teaching style is one of great expectations from the learners and always one of respect given to learners and parents. I manage the classroom without imposing and commanding. Learners will have the opportunity to interact following open-ended questions, and open discussions. The chat box will always be an option for learners to respond. I will incorporate the use of google slides and visuals. I will praise all learners, as well as elicit learner feedback. I will guide learners to take the original meanings of the word personification and apply them to an amusing mental picture to enhance retention. Learners will also create their own personification expressions. There will also be a template for the learners wanting assistance to create.
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their understanding of personification and analyze examples with more success in translating figurative language to literal. Learners will study the integration of science and social studies which will support the understanding that personification carries the pretense of human abilities. Learners will make the connection that these devices of communication are tools. Learners will synthesize the derivatives of personification from Latin and apply that understanding to a mnemonic picture. Learners will also create their own personification with or without a template guide.
