Class experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. The best part about books is sharing them with others and I definitely love to use my animated and enthusiastic reading style to make the stories come alive!
Having taught over 18 years in the classroom before transitioning to the library, I know which books are "kid-approved" and this story is one which is a true holiday classic. I love to share books and connect them to movies so if interested, share the movie with your child after hearing the story (if your child hasn't seen the movie already). Drawing on my experience as an elementary school librarian, I always work to create a read aloud that is an interactive and engaging experience for all. I can't wait to share this story with your child as I sprinkle in lots of holiday joy! Your child will be drawn into the magic and wonder of Van Allsburg's timeless story.
Before our Class:
  - Train ticket handout to bring to class (will be provided 1 day prior to start of class via our classroom page) If you don't have a printer, have fun and create your own ticket for your learner. =)
-paper, pencil, and coloring supplies to create our Polar Express picture
  - items for our treat - We will make a treat in class should you wish your child to participate. We will make a train using graham crackers, round candies such as M & M's, and whipped cream.
*Please feel free to substitute or adjust to meet your child's individual dietary needs. All allergies and personal food preferences are the responsibility of the child's adult.

Optional: tasty drink
               pajamas
                jingle bell(s)

After Class:
Photo frame template - can be printed on cardstock or paper and color and decorated. If you cut out the inner circle of the frame you can then tape a picture of your child in the frame. (posted after our class in the classroom page)
As an experienced teacher and librarian and mother of 4 little ones, I always recommend previewing the book ahead of class. Please note: Outschool is a secular learning platform and I will not discuss religion as part of this class.
