Do you love blues piano? Do you enjoy "messing around" on the piano and creating new sounds? Have you ever wanted to learn how to play Baby Shark on the piano? Then this camp might be for you! During this camp students will learn how to create their own improvised version of Baby Shark-with a blues twist! This camp is ideal for new pianists who want to get started in a non-traditional way (no prior experience necessary) or for experienced pianists who are looking to add some blues...
Lesson 1: Students will learn how to play the Baby Shark melody in the right hand with a swing rhythm. Lesson 2: Students will learn basic improvisational techniques to improvise in the right hand over the Baby Shark melody. Lesson 3: Students will learn chord roots and chord progressions in the left hand to accompany Baby Shark. Lesson 4: Students will combine hands to play an improvised Baby Shark melody in the right hand and a standard blues chord progression in the left hand.
I have a bachelor's degree in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia, a master’s degree of Kodály in Music Education from Loyola University Maryland, and 10+ years experience of Blues/Boogie Woogie improvisation on the piano. I'm incredibly passionate about passing on what I've learned about piano improvisation to students, as I wish I had more access to high quality improvisation instruction when I was younger.
1-2 hours of practice is recommended per week.
