Class Experience

Students will be able to:
- Describe how diverse instruments produce sounds
- Explain key variables that need to be considered when designing instruments
- Incorporate physics vocabulary into their explanations of instruments
- Design and build their own instruments
I'm a mechanical engineer and engineering educator with a passion for helping empower kids to understand the world around them.
Students will be encouraged to make their own instrument each week. The instrument challenge matches our family of instruments:
- Week 1: Drum set
- Week 2: Stringed instrument
- Week 3: Pipe instrument

Students will be invited to share their designs at the start of the following week's class.
Students should have access to a digital camera (webcam is fine). All engineering challenges use supplies that can be found in your recycling bin, a local office supply store, or a local grocery store.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
