US Grade 3 - 6
This class is an introduction to the Periodic Table of The Elements. There is no need of prior knowledge for this class. The students will learn what is an element, an atom, a proton, an electron, a neutron, the atomic number, what are periods and groups and the different kinds of groups and families. The students will get familiar on how to read and use the Periodic Table. I will use a Power Point presentation and we will use the Periodic Table for reference. The students will need to print the worksheet and Periodic Table I have attached. They will also need colored pencils. I will ask questions to students throughout the class to check for understanding and they can also ask questions during the class discussion. At the end of the class, students will build their skill at reading the Periodic Table by finding missing information. For instance, they will identify the Atomic Number, name of the element, number of protons, number of electrons, atomic mass and Element Symbol. The students will also color the main groups of the Periodic Table, like Alkali Metal, Alkali Earth, Transition Metal, Non-metal, Halogen and Noble Gas.
