The Penderwicks Book Clubs can be taken consecutively or not; however, some parts from previous books in the series may be mentioned. -------------------- The Penderwicks Book Club 4 (The Penderwicks in Spring) will bring to life the characters in the book, by discussing the main ideas, sharing opinions, learning to summarize, and drawing pictures. This book has 23 chapters and a Coda (basically 24 chapters). We will cover about 3 chapters in each class. Before day 1, read Chapter 1 and...
Gain confidence in sharing opinions, to be critical of this book in perspective to the other books, listening to others' opinions, being respectful of others' opinions, and discussing the Penderwicks together.
The Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall is my all-time favourite book series! I have read the whole series and some of the books I have re-read a few times: therefore, I am the perfect person to do a book club for this book because I can share my love of this book and author with others.
Homework Offered
Students will be expected to read the book (or if they have read the book in the past, then to skim through the chapters that will be discussed each week; or even listen to the book on audio). Students should participate in the drawings assignments and be ready to participate in class.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Each student needs a book copy or audio of The Penderwicks in Spring by Jeanne Birdsall.

This book discusses the feelings a girl had because of the death of her best friend, a dog, and also discusses how years later a teenager was still grieving the loss of her mother, whom she thought the death was her sister's fault when it wasn't. This book also focuses on a mixed family of two single parents who got married in the 2nd book. Another big topic is how it's okay if someone likes you and you don't like them back in the same way and just want to stay friends.
