The Penderwicks Book Clubs can be taken consecutively or not; however, some parts from previous books in the series may be mentioned. -------------------- The Penderwicks Book Club 3 (The Penderwicks at Point Mouette) will bring to life the characters in the book, by discussing the main ideas, sharing opinions, learning to summarize, and drawing pictures. This book has 17 chapters. We will cover about 2 chapters in each class. Before day 1, read Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Day 1: We will discuss the Chapters 1-2 and a bit about Jeanne Birdsall. Homework: Read Chapters 3-4. Day 2: We will discuss Chapters 3-4 and learn a bit about Maine. Homework: Read Chapters 5-6 and draw a picture of Maine to share in class next time. Day 3: We will discuss Chapters 5-6 and learn how to summarize a chapter into 1-2 sentences. Homework: Read Chapters 7-8. Day 4: We will discuss Chapters 7-8. Homework: Read Chapters 9-11 and draw a picture of your favorite scene so far to share in the next class. Day 5: We will discuss Chapters 9-11 and work on summarizing. Homework: Read Chapters 12-13. Day 6: We will discuss Chapters 12-13. Homework: Read Chapters 14-15 and start working on drawing how you would design the book cover for this book. Day 7: We will discuss Chapters 14-15 and work on summarizing. Homework: Read Chapters 16-17 and draw a picture of what you think the book cover should look like. Day 8: We will discuss Chapters 16-17 and share drawings of the book covers from homework. Homework: None. *Subject to change
Learning Goals
Gain confidence in sharing opinions, listening to others' opinions, being respectful of others' opinions, discussing the Penderwicks together, and learning how to be creative in capturing what was read into drawings like children's illustrators must do.

Parental Guidance
The book focuses on a son connecting with his estranged father (who did not know he had a son).
