The Ocean "Sea Cow"--Exploring the Endangered Manatee

In this one-time course students will learn about the life of the endangered Manatee. We will share ideas, draw a manatee, and use graphic organizers to describe the manatees body, habits, behavior and habitat.

Class Experience

In this course students will learn all about the endangered Manatee.  Information will be presented with the use a power point presentation, photos, and videos.  There will be many opportunities for student discussion and sharing of ideas as we learn about manatee bodies, what they eat, where they live, and some of their habits.  Students will be given a graphic organizer to take notes throughout the class to help with group discussion.  We will also take a moment to draw a manatee.  Students will learn about the Manatees status of Endangered and what is being done to protect this species from becoming extinct.  We will brain storm ideas of how we may help make a difference in saving this incredible mammal.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their knowledge of the manatee. Describing their bodies, what they eat, where they live, and some of their habits.  They will learn to use a graphic organizer to consolidate the information they learn. Students will also learn what is being done to protect the endangerment of the manatee.

Other Details

Supply List
A two page graphic organizer will be available to print before class. 
Drawing paper and a pencil or color pencils will be used to draw the manatee.
 3 files available upon enrollment
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
