Over the course of this dance workshop, students will be transported to the land of sweets, snowflakes, and all things The Nutcracker! Together we will learn a brief history of the ballet, including music, movement, and origin, focusing on fun excerpts and variations from the classical production. In this workshop, students will practice and perform classical variations and excerpts from The Nutcracker, as well as learn the history behind the musical score and origins of the ballet.
Minimal/optional homework will be assigned for this class. Individually students can listen to the music for the variations learned, to help better familiarize them with the materials. It it is also recommended to practice any terminology and movement learned in our time together for further advancement and memory.
Materials: - Comfortable clothes you can move and stretch in - Socks or ballet slippers - Optional: Costume of choice for final in-class performance - An open space to dance in safely, at least a 4 ft by 4 ft square - Water bottle - Notebook and pen
If the student desires further assessment outside of class time, please direct any questions to me following class.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please contact me in advance if you have any health or safety concerns for your learner. In this class we will move at a moderate pace together, monitoring our physical activity safely.
For music we will be using various tracks from the album Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker (Standard Version). This can be found on both Spotify and Apple Music (some tracks can be found on YouTube as well).
