Have you ever heard of the Night Witches? They were forgotten for a large part of history, but I think they were incredible! In this class, we will explore how this regiment came to be, what obstacles they faced as female soldiers during WWII, and what they became famous for. We will learn about Marina Raskova, who was known as the "Soviet Amelia Earhart", how they made due with hand-me-down and subpar equipment, flew over 30,000 missions during the war, and how they were over looked after the war. We will also learn about the different roles women aviators played in different Allied countries during the war and how they compared to that of the Soviet women.
