Description

Class Experience

Students will improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as they read and analyze American literature written over a period of 99 years. They will also learn to think deeply about what they read so that they can better understand themselves and the world in which they live, which improves metacognitive skills and learning. Students will learn to discuss literature analytically, increasing their communication skills. Students will become a part of an online community bound together by books. Most importantly, they will learn to love literature and become life-long readers.
Please purchase or get from the library the books listed in the class schedule. I also recommend the audiobook to supplement.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The topics, themes, and content of the Newbery books are written for kids aged 14 and below. To read about each book, visit https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ or https://abqlibrary.org/newbery/All
