The award has been given since 1922! We are reading every book that has won the Newbery medal, starting with the 2023 winner and working our way back in time to 1922! Students travel backward through the decades, experiencing different times, meeting characters, discovering settings,...
Students will improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary as they read and analyze American literature written over a period of 100 years. They will also learn to think deeply about what they read so that they can better understand themselves and the world in which they live, which improves metacognitive skills and learning. Students will learn to discuss literature analytically, increasing their communication skills. Students will become a part of an online community bound together by books. Most importantly, they will learn to love literature and become life-long readers.
Please purchase or get from the library the books listed in the class schedule. I also recommend the audiobook to supplement.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
