The Never Girls Book Club Literature Lessons: Book 9: Before the Bell
What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
I will use a variety of teaching methods to discuss the story elements of the book: plot, characters and setting. Young learners engage when they are given multiple opportunities to respond per minute, especially in a virtual classroom. I will use a variety of response methods to ensure that students remain fully engaged throughout the lesson. In addition, I always teach to all learning styles, and all personality types will be honored during this class. I utilize slide presentations during my literature classes so that visual learners are supported, but I stop it often to make full visual contact with my students. I enjoy hearing the opinions and ideas of my students, but I also emphasize sharing the talking space. Every class will be supportive of all learners at all times, regardless of reading, communication or social abilities.
Learning Goals
By the end of this class, students will be able to discuss visualizing the plot, characters and setting as well as: characterization, simple plot structure, settings, and practice giving the class reasons for their opinions about the book series. This is a one-time class focused on the Never Girls book series; thus, each class will be a stand-alone lesson. Even though this is a "book club," each class will have a different literary focus in addition to review of the three major elements of plot, setting and characters. This particular class will emphasize author's purpose and connect the text to self, world and other text.
In addition, the soft skills of communication will be taught and practiced.
