With the goal of building both vocal technique and confidence, this 12 week course will walk beginning singers through learning three songs of young female roles from the Broadway Musical Theatre repertoire. Course includes pdf workbook with sheet music. A strong focus of this course will be on building excellent vocal technique with an emphasis on developing head voice, essential tools for acting and building confidence and presentation skills that will set them apart from their peers....
Students will improve their understanding of singing in head voice and applying vocal techniques to three songs from the musical theatre repertoire. Students will also learn basic acting for musical theatre.
A professional performer and voice teacher with 20 years of experience, Sarah has worked with singers of all ages and skill levels. While some singers have been brand new to singing with no experience, others have gone on to win conservatory scholarships and Broadway auditions. As a teaching artist for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Sarah have extensive experience working helping students write their own show and finding characteri through song. Sarah has a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance and and Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Sarah is a Royal Conservatory of Music Elementary Certified Voice Teacher. Students will receive short practice assignments each week in order to develop practice skills and habits. (10-20 minutes / 3 days a week is recommended)
1. A downloadable pdf workbook will be provided. 2. 3 ring binder 3. pencil 4. In the final class, students will be asked to use a backing track from youtube to perform with. For audio purposes, another device such as a phone or tablet works well for this purpose.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
It is suggested that students use backing tracks from youtube to practice with at home and for their final class performance.
