Modernism is a literary, artistic, and philosophical movement of the 20th century exploring the limits of humanity and traditional forms. This course will explore the origins and results of this movement that developed in reaction to the changing century and World War 1. In class, we will explore the origins and concerns of this movement by looking at primary documents. Each week we will explore the art, music, and literature of Modernism to investigate the major themes, styles, and concerns of this time period. We will look at artists and philosophers such as e e cummings, TS Eliot, Picasso, Joyce, and Nietzsche, among others.
