The Mijikenda People are 9 Bantu tribes in coastal people stretching from southern Somali, Kenya and northern Tanzania. They interacted with Arabs during the Arab Trade, Portuguese Explorer Vasco Da Gama and the British during colonial times. The largest group are the Giriama People who were mistrustful of the British outsiders, with good reason, prior to the colonization of the coastal and hinterland areas this group had had its people captured by Arab/Swahili slave traders during the 19th century.Each tribe has a sacred forest, a kaya, which is a place of prayer. This class will take a peak on their way of life covering:- 1. Their Family Group. 2. Spoken Language. 3. Horticultural and Pastoral way of life. 4. Mythology. 5. Food and Medicine 6. History with Slave trade 7. Their Architecture 8. And Much More This class will be caught using Slides, Videos and some Guest teacher when available.
