In this class we will learn about the country of Mongolia, the capital city, flag, biome and climate through a slideshow presentation. We will look at a few animal species that call this environment home such as the two-humped Bactrian Camel. Learners will be encouraged to describe the landscape of the Mongolian Steppes in their own words using a list of descriptive vocabulary such as vast, tranquil, pristine and silent. Through a National Geographic video we will also learn about the inspiring nomads that live in the remote and vast parts of the country - a unique landscape and a unique group of people. The nomads are herders and typically own about 1,000 animals—mostly sheep and goats, but cows, horses, dogs, camels, and yaks as well. Some of them still take part in the traditional art of eagle hunting - a beautiful example of the intimate relationship between man and animal. We will learn about their diet, dress, homes and customs. Learners can keep their camera and mic on or off as they wish and everyone is welcome. No prior knowledge needed.
