Welcome to Meditation Break! Here, we will practice intentional breathing, listening, and allowing our thoughts to enter and leave. There will be a brief explanation on how to meditate and what to expect. Each meditation is between 6-10 minutes, and will include positive affirmations and calming visualizations. In the background, there will be sounds of Tibetan bowls to help focus on listening. After the meditation, we will open it up for a short discussion (for any student who feels comfortable sharing) on what they discovered and how we can implement this practice in our daily lives. **PLEASE NOTE: Class may end early depending on attendance level and student participation during discussion. Creating a meditation practice at an early age will help children decrease anxiety and improve their physical, mental and emotional awareness. Students can access these tools at anytime to become more relaxed and peaceful, while also increasing gratefulness and self-confidence.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to calm their minds with the following tools:
• Mindfulness: The practice of self-awareness and our thinking patterns.
• Listening: The ability to have an outward focus which quiets the mind and ego, and allows for a wider perspective.
• Affirmations: Emotional and mental positivity, of which we can apply for ourselves as well as our loved ones and peers.
• Intentional focus on our breath and physicality, which will help decrease unintentional actions and heighten our controlled consciousness.
