Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to read about 4 chapters of the book between sessions and come prepared to discuss and answer comprehension questions on the book. Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
This is a book club for The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia #1) by C.S. Lewis. Each meeting, we will focus on 4 chapters of the book, discussing the story, learning the vocabulary and taking a comprehension quiz for the assigned chapters. Students will read assigned chapters for each day, completing the book by the end of the course. They should come ready to discuss the chapters and answer comprehension questions each week. The last 2 times will be spent working to create a book report on this book, and then sharing it with the class.

Day 1: Introduction--meet each other, as well as intro to Narnia & author C.S. Lewis. Review vocabulary for chapters 1-4.
Day 2: Students will read chapters 1-4 to be prepared for class. We will do a comprehension activity using Kahoot! on these chapters and learn vocabulary for chapters 5-8.
Day 3: Comprehension activity and discussion on chapters 5-8. Review of all vocabulary studied so far & vocabulary for 9-12.
Day 4: Comprehension activity and discussion on chapters 9-12. Introduce vocabulary for 13-15.
Day 5: Comprehension activity and discussion on chapters 13-15. Lesson on writing a Book Report, using a persuasive essay approach, why people should (or shouldn't) read this book
Day 6: Everyone reads their Book Report to the class, final vocabulary and comprehension games

Learning Goals

Students will learn vocabulary before reading the chapters, helping them to understand the book easily. The students will also be tested each session on their comprehension of the chapters, so they'll have to pay close attention to what they're reading. Finally, they will learn how to write a book report, pulling out the main ideas from the book.

Hello! I am excited to be your child's teacher.
I love to teach in any capacity: especially reading, writing and grammar classes.

Teaching is my passion! I have been teaching for 23 years everything from early childhood to college & adults. Not only have I taught in elementary schools, but I have been homeschooling my children for the past 12 years and working in several homeschool coops as well. For my career, I teach English as a Second Language to adults.

I am very familiar with the ins and outs of the English language, from the basics of phonics & reading to college writing, and everything in between! (Like past participles 😄) My philosophy of education is that every child can learn! I would love to work with your child and help them succeed! Even if your child is not reading or writing in a way you would like, they are amazing & smart! Education is a tool to help them share what they know with the world! Let's get started!
