Begin to discover the magical language of music through singing and movement, and explore how music is created by the changing of sounds! In this 4-week course, the foundational musical concept will be "Short and Long."

Description
Class Experience
Along with an age appropriate exploration of their voice as an instrument, students will begin to lay the foundation for music literacy through a holistic and creative exploration of musical sounds. Each session will focus on one particular foundational musical concept for the entire session. This gives students the opportunity to fully experience one idea before moving on to another. Session Five explores Short and Long, and in the other sessions of The Magical Language of Music: Foundations of Music, the following ideas are explored: Session Six • Steady Beat Session One • High and Low Session Two • Fast and Slow Session Three • Loud and Soft Session Four • Smooth and Jerky
I have been teaching music to children and adults alike for a very long time. Somewhere along the way, many have lost the belief that everyday people are capable of beautiful music-making with each other. But music is not solely a performance art... it is a form of communication in which humans have been participating for thousands of years. Along with establishing a joyful foundation in music literacy for children, it is my hope that these classes will encourage children to share their love of music-making with each other, and even the grown-ups in their lives. Let us sing together!
No homework, but wee folk are encouraged to sing through the songs with their grown folk between class meetings.
For each class: * Main Lesson Book (A sketchbook works great, or loose papers that can be then bound when completed) * Good quality crayons For our third class meeting, students will also need: * 1 wooden dowel (1/2 inch diameter, 12 inches long) * 2 small-medium screw eye hooks * ribbon (2 inches wide) * ribbon (1/2 inch wide) Also recommended, but not required, is the picture book, Pentatonica. A link to purchase this book is provided in the classroom, but can also be found on the website for Legends of the Staff of Musique.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The magic of music-making can be discovered at any age! Parents or guardians are encouraged to participate along with the children taking the class.
