Learners, armed with a magical treehouse, travel through time to visit dinosaurs, explore ancient Egypt, and even meet famous historical figures like Abraham Lincoln and Leonardo da Vinci. Join us on our adventure, discovering new lands and unraveling mysteries. A social book club is a perfect way to increase: 💛 a love of reading 🔎 closer reading 🗣 discussion skills 📚reading level 🧠 creativity ❤️🩹 empathy 🧐 concentration 📝 academic skills 📋 vocabulary 🌏 Even better, learners gain a better understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them. A book club brings the best of a social group together with the academics of a book club. It can get reluctant readers moving through books and avid readers looking more closely at the literature. At the end of each book club, students will have the opportunity to show their creative abilities by drawing something from the story to share. This will vary each class but topics include draw your favorite character in the story, draw your favorite part, create a book cover, draw you in the story, etc. 🥰 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄: We discuss a new book during each class, so 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨. Students learn reading strategies, how to analyze, who they are as readers, and how to communicate about literature and life! They will begin to develop their own criteria for evaluating the books they read, and they will begin to understand the type of readers they are. To do this, each student takes a turn talking about the book, and the teacher will probe a bit to get each learner to do deeper thinking. Because it's a discussion class, we encourage students to leave their cameras on, to use the chatbox to expand the discussion, and to think about what they want to say before class begins. 🎥TEACHER BIOS & INTRO VIDEOS: To see teacher introduction videos, go to the Lemons-Aid profile page where you can view the video and also read bios. https://outschool.com/teachers/Karen-Lemons?usid=0BAnv5zn&signup=true&authTrigger=follow_teacher&follow=true&utm_campaign=share_leader_link 📆 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐄: Oct 13-19: NO CLASS Oct 20-26: Twister on Tuesday Oct 27-Nov 2:NO CLASS Nov 3-9: Earthquake in the Early Morning Nov 10-16: NO CLASS Nov 17-23: Stage Fright on a Summer Night Nov 24-30: NO CLASS Dec 1-7: Good Moring, Gorillas Dec 8-14: NO CLASS Dec 15-21: High Tide in Hawaii Dec 22-28: NO CLASS Dec 29-Jan 4: A Big Day for Baseball Jan 5-11: NO CLASS Jan 12-18: Hurricane Heroes in Texas Jan 19-25: NO CLASS Jan 26 - Feb 1: Warriors in Winter Feb 2-8: NO CLASS Feb 9-15: Sunset of the Sabertooth Feb 16-22: NO CLASS Feb 23-Mar 1: Midnight on the Moon Mar 2-8: NO CLASS Feb 23-Mar 1: Dolphins at Daybreak Mar 2-8: NO CLASS Mar 9-15: Ghost Town at Sundown
