Students will engage in the reading of Magic Tree House: Afternoon on the Amazon. After the reading we will have a class discussion about the chapters that were read-aloud. Students will work on reading comprehension skills while learning about the Amazon. Students will learn about how the rain forest has layers and what animals live in the layers. They will learn about what plants are in the rain forest and how we use these plants for food and medicine. Students will also learn about people that live in the Amazon and how we can help preserve their way of life and the resources that they need to live.
I am offering this class as a fun integration of English, Social Studies and Art. I believe that students learn material best when it is relational to them so I love making stories come alive for them and applying them to the world that the students live in.
Students will complete reading comprehension questions in class but if they wish there will be an optional writing prompt that they can complete outside of class.
Students will need drawing paper, a permanent marker or something to draw with and coloring supplies.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed through classroom discussion.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
