AP Chemistry Free Response Practice #2
The Magic of Science!
Class experience
AlakaSam will perform science demonstrations that seem like magic! Science effects are from the fields of physics and chemistry. Student will be invited to make predictions and describe their observations. Simple, scientific explanations will be provided, but most impressive are the demonstration! Specific effects include mardi gras bead siphons, the toro flux in motion and steel wool & other combustion reactions. Live demonstrations like the bead siphon may be followed by exclusive slow...
Students will learn simple physics and chemistry concepts that explain stunning scientific demonstrations. Examples include Newton's Laws of Motion and combustion reactions. Potentially dangerous demonstrations are conducted with a strong safety message and safety equipment. The at-home activity for participants involves common kitchen items: White Paper or Dinner Plate Water Ground Pepper Liquid Dish or Laundry Detergent Towel (for possible spills) Toothpick (optional)
I have decades of experience performing combustion demonstrations and have lead safety training sessions for coworkers.
1 file available upon enrollmentDinner Plate White (solid color contrasting pepper), Pie Pan or Similar Dish Water (enough to cover bottom dish) Ground Pepper (a few shakes) Dish Detergent (less than a drop) Toothpick
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class may include two combustion demonstrations: steel wool and moss spores. All combustion or fire demonstrations are prefaced by a strong safety message including the warning not to try the demonstration at home. I will also highlight my use of safety equipment including safety goggles and a fire extinguisher.
