Due to the vastness of options in Dungeons and Dragons, students will learn and exercise many skills, including the following: -clear communication -strategy and tactics -collaborative storytelling -vocabulary -critical thinking -teamwork -problem solving -conflict resolution -resolutions of ethical and moral dilemmas -math and reading fluency -etc.
I have spent a great deal of time playing in and running Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. I also have much experience teaching D&D to new players. As far as teaching children goes, I've spent over a decade teaching ages 8-18 in the classroom in subjects ranging from Geometry and Algebra to Latin to Rhetoric, Literature, and Political Philosophy. I have served in many roles from Master Teacher to Head of Curriculum to Network Trainer to Academy Headmaster (all with Great Hearts Academies).
Students will need a completed character which I will check before the first session (students who completed 102 with me have one but may create another manually or use dndbeyond.com). Students would benefit from a copy of the Player's Handbook: https://www.amazon.com/Players-Handbook-Dungeons-Dragons-Wizards/dp/0786965606/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=player%27s+handbook&qid=1609709577&sr=8-3 . If they cannot purchase this, they can access a copy of the Basic Rules online for free: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
