During this one- time class, students will learn about the colonization of North America. The class will discuss the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the colonist who were a part of England's first attempt at settling in the New World. The class will read and discuss the legend of the White Doe. We will then discuss how the story relates to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The class will discuss the background of the Colony of Roanoke. Students will review the facts and clues about what happened. Finally, students will use the information to deduce what happened to the missing colonists.. Students knowledge will be evaluated through discussion and presentation of their work. This class only meets once for 80 minutes, thus, no homework will be assigned. Students should print out a copies of the White Doe , Lost Colony Facts, Lost Colony Clues and The Rest of the Story prior to class.
Learning Goals
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of colonization, specifically the Roanoke Colony through discussion, comprehension activities and a writing activity.

I am a state certified teacher in social studies, English and library media. I have a BA in history and anthropology and a M. Ed in secondary education. I have taught for 15 years at a cyber charter school. During this time, I helped create the school's online high school program while teaching social studies and English classes.
