Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I first encountered Mildred Taylor's novels as a middle school student. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry was the start of my love for historical fiction. This past fall I had the opportunity to teach the text for the first time to middle schoolers, and came up with the idea for a book club that covers the five novel-length texts in the series. These novels give a glimpse into the lives of Black Americans in the American South beginning with the Reconstruction Era and ending with the 1960s Voting Rights Act.
