Discover the sweet and savory delights of pie-making in this simple, fun, and deliciously rewarding class. Learn how to make your own pie pastry (and flavor it if you choose), how to choose compatible ingredients and layer fillings, and how to bake your creations to warm, crispy, and satisfying perfection. The course will include clear demonstrations of a savory pie recipes and all techniques required. I'll walk students through how to make their own pastry, working and shaping the dough, and adding spice to flavor the crust. Next, we'll layer in the filling (with a variety of available options), and create a simple but beautiful top crust. We'll also cover substitutions and options for those with vegan or vegetarian preferences. Students are welcome to offer ideas and request flavor profiles or ingredients or themes. Based on suggestions, I'll provide a list of ingredients a few days before the start of the course so that students can bake along at home if they wish; I'll also post videos with pastry-making tips prior to our meeting. The course will also include some discussion about flavor pairings (based on student interest) and demonstration of additional techniques and pastry recipes as time permits.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Baking is one of my favorite creative processes; it's both challenging and rewarding in every stage. Had I not been intimidated by the process of making so much from scratch (or a fear of failure), I would have begun much sooner. I hope this course helps and inspires others to take up baking for themselves and those they love.
