Class Experience

Students will learn about caterpillar's, butterflies and their life cycle. We will discuss the vocabulary words: caterpillar, chrysalis, antennae, camouflage, stages, predator and nectar throughout the lesson.
I am offering this class because I love butterflies and nature! Every year, for the past 16 years, I have purchased caterpillars for my classroom and have helped my students care for and observe the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. I have learned a lot over the years :)!
Homework is optional. Some homework ideas are: 1. Students may draw and label the life cycle of a butterfly. 2. Students may draw and label the parts of a butterfly. 3. Students may observe butterflies in the wild and write about what they see.
Attached handout (or a plain piece of paper), markers, crayons and/or pencils.

In addition- If would like to purchase the books that I will be reading they are as follows. I will be reading the book "Caterpillar to Butterfly" by Laura Marsh and the book "Caterpillars and Butterflies" by Stephanie Turnbull. These books are available for purchase on Amazon. "Caterpillar to Butterfly" is $3.99. "Caterpillars and Butterflies" is $8.97.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will assess students orally at the end of the lesson. I will ask them what they learned about caterpillars, butterflies and the life cycle of a butterfly. I will also ask them what their favorite thing was that they learned about butterflies.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
