US Grade 3 - 6
This will be a highly interactive class examining one of the three branches of the United States federal government. We'll start off by briefly discussing why we have three separate branches of government before focusing on the legislative branch. During our conversation we'll discuss the following: 1) Who makes up the legislative branch. 2) The requirements to be a Senator and a Representative. 3) How long terms for each are. 4) The main responsibilities of the legislative branch. We won't go into depth about what checks and balances are but they will get introduced during the fourth part.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Jake! I have a BA in Political Science and Spanish. For the past nine and a half years I've worked for a youth-serving nonprofit organization. I spent five of those years as a program director responsible for creating age appropriate programming for youth between the ages of five and ten. I've also been fortunate enough through this organization to work at summer camp for eight summers teaching a number of skills based subjects.
I endeavor to make my classes highly engaging and fun. Students should expect to be asked lots of questions during class rather than sitting in a lecture as I believe this helps students develop their critical thinking skills.
You'll find me teaching classes about outdoor skills, civics, and even some sports. I hope to see you in class!
