Class Experience

Students will learn:

-how to work as a team to both solve and create their own puzzles

-how to use logic, reasoning, and critical/lateral thinking

-how to work efficiently within a limited amount of time

-how to think outside the box or find creative solutions to problems

-how to communicate and translate an idea into a workable concept onscreen, taking into account the physical space of the shrine room and the interactions between different objects
I have previously worked as an arts journalist and managing editor, covering film, TV, theater, and video games for a media company in New York. I am also a teacher, playwright, and published YA author, and I've previously worked for a high school where I taught writing and ACT/SAT prep. I've taught English to younger children overseas, led educational events and programming at various theaters around Chicago, and taught reading, language arts, and educational escape room-based courses to more than 6000 elementary and middle school students online. (I have also completed the majority of the shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so I'm very familiar with how its puzzles tend to work.)
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
While there are some references to swords, bows and arrows, and battling enemies, it is all Nintendo-themed and kid-friendly. The puzzles are also not stressful, and no students will be put on the spot to answer anything they don't want to.
